Why a $12.00 item displays as $11.99 and how to charge exactly $12.00

When you create an item with a base price of $12.00, the displayed and charged price may appear as $11.99. This happens because item prices use a predefined price grid for each country and currency.

Why this happens

The system automatically snaps the entered price to the nearest available value in the price grid for that currency.

For example, if the available USD steps include values such as $10.99, $11.99, and $12.99, but do not include $12.00, then an entered price of $12.00 will be snapped to the closest valid step. In this case, $11.99 is 1 cent away, while $12.99 is 99 cents away, so the final displayed price becomes $11.99.

How to charge exactly $12.00

To display and charge an exact $12.00 amount in USD, set a custom price (price override) for the item instead of relying only on the base price.

1. Open the item in the dashboard.
2. Find the custom price or price override option for US / USD.
3. Set the value to $12.00.
4. Save the change and re-check the checkout page.

This bypasses the default .99 price grid behavior for that market.

Where to see available grid values

There is a predefined set of valid values, but it is managed internally rather than shown as a standalone public table.

In practice, you can inspect the available values in the dashboard while setting an item's price: as you enter a price, the interface will display or snap to the valid tiers for the selected currency.

Important note

If you need an exact amount that is not part of the default grid, use a custom price / price override for the relevant currency rather than the base price alone.
