iOS web checkout availability in Brazil vs the United States
This article explains how Aghanim currently treats iOS web checkout for Brazil compared with the United States.
Short answer
- United States: in-game web checkout can be used with 0% commission.
- Brazil: iOS in-game web checkout is not available on the same terms as in the United States. For purchases initiated from inside the game and completed through a web shop, the effective rate is 21% per transaction.
Important distinction: Checkout vs Game Hub
There are two different flows that should not be mixed together:
- Web checkout from inside the game: the player wants to make a purchase and is directed to a web shop checkout flow. In Brazil on iOS, this flow is treated differently from the US and carries 21% commission.
- Game Hub flow: if the player is sent from the game to collect free content in the game hub rather than directly to make a purchase, this is considered a different scenario. Aghanim currently treats this as the viable direct-to-consumer option with 0% commission.
What to tell customers
If a customer asks whether Brazil now supports web checkout "like in the US," the answer is no. Brazil does not currently have the same no-fee setup for iOS in-game web checkout. If the goal is a direct purchase flow from the game to a web shop checkout, the current assumption is 21% commission in Brazil versus 0% in the US.
Summary table
| Scenario | United States | Brazil |
|---|---|---|
| iOS in-game web checkout for purchases | 0% | 21% |
| Game Hub flow for free-content collection | 0% | 0% (current Aghanim position) |
